“The Purge“ documents an historical event of 1956 in Pankakoski, Finland. Mistrust between Roma and the majority community erupted dramatically. The men of the village got together to drive the Roma population from the area. The lm raises issues of discrimination, but also touches on the consequences of the Roma community’s choice to isolate themselves in order to protect their own cultural identity.
